I’ve attended a number of trade shows around the world as both a spectator and presenter. One thing that has always baffled me is the relative monotony in almost all trade show booths. The formula seems to be: floor space + 4 walls + branding/signage + tables/chairs and thats about it. Considering the insane amount of money and thought that big corporations put into these shows, I’ve always wondered why more companies don’t try harder to deviate from the norm when it comes to booth design.
I found Nickelodeon’s booth at last week’s Licensing Expo to be a great example of ‘outside the box’ booth design. Using these cool bright orange plastic structures and a few gigantic light boxes, Nickelodeon was able to create a space that was both inviting to visitors and properly representative of the brand without being boring.
I have no idea if Nickelodeon had a successful show, but if the crowd of people standing outside of the booth gazing in awe at this marvel of a booth (if you can even call it that) is any indicator, I’d say they did pretty well.

I wonder what Nick actually ended up spending on their booth setup?
