Has the Internet swept away the world of publishing and hard copy books??? Does light reading now mean opening your computer and scrolling thru the bookmarks to check if your fave blog has been updated. Ask Kate Lee her opinion on the topic. Kate Lee got a write up in the New Yorker with a resume of only being an assistant at ICM. ICM is one of the leading talent and literary agencies in the world. With offices in LA NY and London this is a full service talent agency that include artists ranging from Chris Rock to Courtney Love to Woody Allen. Is this another venture to give anyone their special 15 min of fame or could the world of blogging really be taking the lead for up and coming writers??
In the new yorker Kate is quoted saying the following:
“Most writers are not getting published in magazines or literary journals, For some more unconventional voices, for people that don’t have connections, blogs can be an entryway into the game.” For more on what Kate said, checkout The New Yorker article ‘A Book In You‘.
As I was reading about Kate is dawned on me that this idea of representing ‘blogstars’ is genius. I thought about how many people I know keep a “blog”… the list is endless. How many companies are adding blog options to their websites for PR and marketing? How much information can be gathered from perusing a blog on a specific topic? In my experience alone I have found endless sources of inspiration from a blog. Look at the attention that some bloggers like Perez Hilton or Cory Kennedy received from their Internet status alone. With the help of Kate Lee, do bloggers really have the potential to go from Z list to A list? I was thinking of typing out a letter to Ms. Lee… who knows maybe I could be the next.
