While surfing the net today, I came across an amazing mobile application called Android Scan. The name may sound super geeky, but it’s actually pretty amazing, and I cannot wait to give it a try for myself.

The Andoid Scan official website describes the software as an “application that finds pricing and metadata for anything with a barcode.” So what the heck does that mean?
It works like this: You have the software on your camera phone and take a snapshot of a barcode. That barcode is then read and searched. It displays information and reviews about the item you scanned based off meta data pulled from the web. You can purchase items directly from the web, or use the directions displayed to nearby local stores selling the item to walk over and pick it up.
Example: I’m at a friends house. They have the new Virgins CD on their desk. I want to get it, but want to check the prices first. I scan the barcode on the back of the CD and see it listed on www.amazon.com for $15.00, www.half.com for $12.99 and the local Barnes and Noble on my way home for $14.99. I’m decide to order the CD directly from half.com because I’m not going to be passing Barnes and Noble on my way home, and $12.99 is cheaper than $15.00.
Just imagine the possibilities at flea markets!!!
The coolest part is when it comes to CD’s. You can actually stream preview tracks directly from your phone.
