After anxiously waiting for a few years I can’t believe the Optimus Maximus keyboard is now for sale! If you haven’t seen this before, it is the coolest computer peripheral to hit the market since the mouse. Each of the 113 keys on the Optimus keyboard contain a 10.1×10.1mm OLED screen capable of displaying 10 frames a second of 65,536 color video at a 48×48 pixel resolution.
To put it simply, each key is a mini screen with a programmable display. This means that instead of your keyboard being a fixed input with printed letters, you can now change the values of your keys in real-time. The included software allows you to create your own key layouts, and bind actions to keys.
There are a bunch more YouTube videos as well as a demo on www.artlebedev.com.
For only $1564.72 you can buy one RIGHT NOW online. I’ve been waiting three years for this thing to be released so I know I’ll be getting one. Imagine switching keyboard layouts from Protools to Photoshop to Premiere to Team Fortress 2!

While it looks to be a very cool device, I can’t see the average person willing to pay over 1500 bucks for something like this. You can buy an entire computer for that much. This is a device for someone who spends their entire life buried in their computer, at least until the price point comes down into the lower stratosphere. For those who can’t live without it, be my guest. Let me know when it’s affordable.
